Menchu is a yoga therapist, educator, storyteller and mother.
Born and raised in Spain, Menchu began practising Sun Salutations in 2000 without knowing that they were part of the physical aspect of Yoga. It took a running injury, as she was preparing for the 2007 London Marathon, to enter for the first time into a Yoga class, which she then would attend regularly as a way to stretch and strengthen her damaged ankle. Her yoga practice not only started to inform her running then, but she also discovered that running was a way to meditate. It took her another 4 years to start exploring other formal meditation methods such as Vipassana, Raja Yoga and Yoga Nidra.
Different life stages have brought Menchu to intuitively dive in and enjoy different types of yoga — from Ashtanga to Restorative; from Yin to Taoist yogas. Her current favourite practices are Qigong Yoga, Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra as they bring about mindful flow of energy that refresh the body and mind. She loves Qigong Yoga because her body flows in all directions as the dance of a willow tree in the breeze; she loves Yin Yoga because it gives her the chance to explore her internal weather forecast as she awakens her tissues; she loves Yoga Nidra because it gives her the space to restore and to be creative.
Menchu believes that yoga is accessible to all of us, and that through regular practice we can all experience profound changes in our mind and body. She believes that yoga is not only an accessible, but also a powerful tool for self care and personal growth. That is the reason she founded Amshala Yoga & Yoga Therapy in 2013, as a platform for making the benefits of yoga accessible to everyone, and especially to people with a chronic condition. To that end, she has extensively trained (and continues to do so) as a Yoga Therapist, and loves to share her knowledge and experience through her one-to-one therapy sessions, regular classes and workshops. She is a Yoga Alliance Professionals Experienced Yoga Teacher, and a Yoga Alliance E-RYT® 200, RYT® 500 and YACEP®.
Menchu teaches a variety of classes and workshops including Hatha, Yin, Pregnancy, Yoga Nidra, Restorative, Meditation and Yoga Therapy; her sessions are always inclusive, practical, informative, lively and caring. What is her teaching mantra?
Move. Breathe. Restore… Repeat.
My first experience of Yoga was with Menchu. I found the classes to be great fun in a really relaxed atmosphere. They contributed to my general fitness, helped calm my mind and bring my thoughts to the present, while stretching and distressing my body. I always left the class feeling more positive, energised, calm, and grounded. Menchu is a great teacher and I would highly recommend her classes.

I’ve done quite a lot of meditation classes with Menchu and have benefited so much from this. She has such enthusiasm for and knowledge of her subject, the classes have been a pleasure to do. I would highly recommend them.
